From the Origins to the Present
Founded in 1947, Seabra is a Portuguese Group with worldwide recognition in the engineering area, operating in the Industrial Refrigeration sector, Air Conditioning, Water Treatment, Energy and Communications, Food Technology, and Engineering and Construction.
A history filled with entrepreneurial capability, vision, ambition, rigour, sacrifice, work, courage, humility, partnerships and continuous learning, born in Coimbra.
The company is first called Fonseca & Seabra, dedicates itself to the development and instalment of air conditioning, and later on, creates a manufacturing plant dedicated to the construction of industrial boilers, named Termec, growing to be the biggest Iberian Peninsula plant in this area.
During the 70s decade, given the sector’s growth, a Lisbon subsidiary is open, and till the 80s decade, Fonseca & Seabra has a significant growth, creating several subsidiary companies. In the 70s decade in particular, F&S formed a team of technicians in the area of Industrial Refrigeration. From this team, another independent company is created, eventually leading to H. Seabra – Comércio e Industrias Térmicas, Lda.
During these years, H. Seabra also has some international activity, however it is in 1993, recognizing the small dimension of the Portuguese market, that H. Seabra initiates a true internationalization process.
From the outset, the company’s greatest investment is placed in Angola and Brazil.
Other markets are pursued with an on/off activity in São Tomé and Prince, Venezuela, Morocco, Algeria, Jordan, United Arab Emirates, Mozambique, amongst others.
After the geographical diversification of the industrial refrigeration business, the Group began the expansion of its business portfolio.
In 2007, an opportunity arises for the purchase of a majority share of Clorozono, a water treatment specialist company. This opened the doors to the water and environmental strategic market, nowadays represented by the Group’s Hidrotek.
In 2010 a bet is placed in a return to the origins, with the creation of Prime Air.
This brand name became the driven force behind the Group’s strong growth in the Air Conditioning area, in such a successful matter that it is today the major player in the Angolan market.
A year later, a Group’s new investment, focuses its business in the construction area, with Entek’s training, obtaining excellent results in Angola and Algeria. In the same year, emerges Terawatt to complement the business portfolio in the area of special technical installations, present in all Sub-Saharan Africa in the field of low, medium and high voltage power.
Between the end of 2011 and the beginning of 2012, the Group continues to broaden its spectrum of services and invests in the Food Technology, with the creation of FoodSystems, representing this area in Portugal, Angola and Venezuela.
In this same line of activity, though thinking specifically of the commercialization of complementary equipments for the HoReCa’s channel food industry, Stembru Angola is born.
Still in this year, to respond to an eminent market need, and the Group’s clients, Service is created, providing a complete technical assistance to its several business areas. Truth be told, what first started has a service expansion in the Refrigeration Industry, turned out to become a new asset to the Group, and a cornerstone for all its activity.
All the Seabra Group represents today, is more than the mere sum of all these events. It’s an entire entrepreneurial culture, a way of being in the market and teamwork focused in the client’s satisfaction, making it all possible. And from now on, the ambition is, continuing to leave a mark in time.
